In their Champions League debut against Shakhtar Donetsk, Real Madrid conceded three goals in the first half and lost 2-3 at home. It was very a bad first step for the team coached by Zinedine Zidane. Immediately, the fans started to express their opinions on social media and pointed the Frenchman coach as the main responsible for the bad moment. They also pointed goalkeeper Thibaut Courtais.

Although the three goals of Shakhtar had more to do with the bad performance of the full backs, specially of Brazilian Eder Militao, Courtais couldn't save the time. Fans remember that things were different back in Keylor Navas' times. The Costa Rican goalkeeper was the stater in the three-in-a-row Champions League titles under Zinedine Zidane.

Courtais' arrival to Real Madrid, in this sense, was never clear. He came from Chelsea after playing many years at Atletico Madrid in exchange for 65 million euros. During the years when Florentino Pérez chose his players depending more on how many shirts the would sell than on their real value.

Thibaut Courtais is 28 years old and started his career at KRC Gent, on his natal Belgium. In 2011, aged 19, Courtais was acquired by Chelsea for over 8 million euros and sent on loan to Atlético Madrid just after Atleti sold David de Gea to Manchester United. Courtais stayed in Atleti three seasons and got to on UEFA Champions League final. In 2014 he returned to Chelsea, just before been bought by Real Madrid.
