The fact of FC Barcelona leaving Luis Suárez out of the squad was a very hard decision to understand. It was made by ex-president Josep María Bartomeu with the support of the arriving head coach Ronald Koeman and generated a true scandal in the club at the end of 2019/20 season.

The Uruguayan spent 283 matches playing for Barça, scoring 195 goals and being one of the all-time top-scorers of the club. But those achievements were not enough for the club, that decided to axe him. Suárez rapidly found a new club and, after negotiating with Juventus, he finally passed to Atlético de Madrid.

Since his arrival, Diego Simeone thanked Barcelona for such an unusual decision and started to take advantage of having Suárez. With just 16 matches played, the striker scored nine goals, being the player of the Colchoneros who scored the most. Atlético de Madrid is now first on LaLiga thanks to the goals scored by their forward, top-scorer in the competition so far.

Suárez did never talk again about the decision that Barcelona took with him and decide to make silence, to respect the club in which his friend Lionel Messi plays. But on the Instagram stories of the player, it is common to see how he flatters the team and his companions, something that Barça is suffering for a very divided locker room and that some see as a clear message to his old club.
