The road to qualify for Qatar 2022 is really long, but the South America stars go step by step. Argentina won the first two matches this week with Messi scoring on the first one, and Lautaro and Joaquín Correa in the last one. But there is a record that Argentina needed to break and that happened in this match.

Lautaro Martinez, the 23-year-old striker is the first Argentinian player other than Lio Messi to score in a World Cup qualifier since November 2016. If we think about it is really crazy how the team depends on the FC Barcelona star. Of course, there has been goals scored by other players in other competitions, but this one seems to be really important.

At the end of the last qualifiers, Argentina was almost out of the Russia World Cup and a Lio Messi’s hat trick got the job done. The important thing to see here is that Argentina needed this, the team need to rely on other players, need to trust other players and win without Messi if he is not on his best moment.

Now Argentina’s team is in the middle of a reorganization of a team that might or might not be around Messi, but it seems that the coach can trust Lautaro to be the main player and take the shots on the hardest moments of the game. Will this eventually happen?
