Lionel Messi is very near to leave FC Barcelona for the very first time in his professional career. The Argentinian legend arrived when he was 13 years old to the Catalan side and after all this time he is thinking on departing. The reasons are various, but the main one is the lack of a sport project that can lead him to play aside a competitive team that help him to win titles.

At his 33 years old, the historical no. 10 wants to play a couple of years more, and retirement seems not to be an option so far for him. If the Argentinian leaves Barça, the options for him are Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain. Those two are almost the only clubs that may afford the contract as the one he is pretending.

But if Messi moves, he may be losing one of his private contracts that is making him gaining a fortune during the last years. The player is an ambassador of Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) and Konami, developer of the video game. The sponsorship gives him millions per year, and that link could now reach an end after many years.

Konami and PES sponsor as well Barcelona and if Messi decides to leave the club it is likely to think that they won’t be able to continue to show his image with the jersey of another side. That is the main reason why the company is very interested on him staying and one of the contracts that the player may lose if he leaves Barcelona.

The chance of playing at Newell’s Old Boys

Before arriving to Barcelona, Messi started his career as a kid at Newell’s, a club from Rosario that he still loves a lot. The attacker talked many times about the chance of him returning and playing a couple of months before retiring there, but the social and economic situation at Argentina make such a thing hard. For now, everyone thinks that if Messi moves, it will be either to Manchester City or to PSG.
