The impressive award that Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi won will never have
The Portuguese attacker gained an award that not even his greatest rival has.
Dubai hosted the Globe Soccer Awards, celebrate on the exclusive hotel Armanii on Dubai Sports Council. Many awards were given during all the day, but with no doubts Cristiano Ronaldo was the greatest winner. The Portuguese defeated his historical rival Lionel Messi and generated polemic on the fans.
After many expectations, CR7 was chosen as the player of the century (2001 to 2020) and received an impressive award that himself celebrated on the stage at Dubai. Many assured that the absence of Messi in the event was crucial to pick Cristiano, as the Argentinian went to take vacations with his family to Argentina.
Cristiano was one of the most emblematic players of this year. He started his professional career at Sporting CP on 2002 and then played for Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus. Since July 2018 he is doing so at the Italian side and, at his 35 years old, it is yet undefined where he will be playing in the future.
Despite Cristiano was the best one of the last decades, the award for the attacker of the year was given to Robert Lewandowski. Other awards given went to Bayern Munich (club of the year), Hans-Dieter Flick (head coach of the year), Real Madrid (club of the century), Pep Guardiola (coach of the century) and Jorge Mendes (agent of the century).
