Paris Saint-Germain is set to lose French wunderkid, Kylian Mbappe this summer. The 21-year-old has repeatedly rejected contract renewal offers amidst a stand-off between player and club. Mbappe has less than 12 months left on his contract, which expires by June 2022. Real Madrid is rumoured to have put in a €160m bid for the player.

However, PSG Sporting Director, Leonardo whilst confirming Mbappe's desire to leave the club noted that the offer received for the player is less than their valuation of him. PSG paid €180m for the player in 2018 when he moved from Monaco. Since then, he has won 3 Ligue 1 titles, the FIFA World Cup and played in the UEFA Champions League final. As a result of this, Leonardo noted that they would not sell the player for less than they bought him despite the possibility of losing him for free just 9 months from now.

For a deal to happen, the Los Blancos would have to increase their offer for Mbappe or perhaps add other sweeteners to the deal. Since Mbappe's departure would significantly weaken PSG's attack, then a cash plus player deal might be the perfect solution for both clubs. Messi's arrival at the club is seen to be the last straw that is forcing Mbappe out and thus, the Argentine might get to pick who replaces Mbappe in the squad.

Real Madrid has a lot of attacking players that would suit PSG's style of play and that Messi has been looking forward to playing with. Top of the list is Colombian superstar, James Rodriguez. The 2014 World Cup Golden Ball winner has failed to sparkle at Madrid and is now out of the squad temporarily. His attacking guile and trickery would be a good foil for Messi's directness in the final third. Added to the fact that Barcelona were also in the running to sign Rodriguez in 2014 before he chose to sign for Real, Messi must have thought of ways to link up with the attacking talent.

Another player Messi might request for and that PSG would take at the Parc des Princes is Gareth Bale. The Welshman has been touch and go with Real Madrid but he would appreciate a move to Paris. Bale would be a like-for-like replacement for Mbappe and would immediately improve the squad quality at PSG, making their push for the UEFA Champions League title stronger.
