The drama at the culé club has reached a new level, as Spanish media claim that Ousmane Dembélé is staying at Barcelona and would do so for a very important reason, despite the consequences.

What would these consequences be? Well, his staying at the club would unleash an internal war that will be harmful to the team, which is currently struggling to stay afloat.
According to the Spanish media, the winter transfer window is almost closed, making the player's departure practically impossible.
And although there were many rumors to the contrary, in the end, it has been journalist Fabrizio Romano, the world soccer transfer specialist, who has denied that several teams other than Chelsea and PSG wanted the striker.
But even with this context, there is a very important reason why the player did not leave the club, according to Spanish media reports.
While it is true that in the end, no team made an aggressive offer to obtain the player, Dembélé and his agent think that the player will remain at Barcelona until the end of his contract, next June 30, to be able to collect an important commission when signing with another club, by being able to leave as a free agent.
This conjecture of the Spanish media makes all the sense in the world when one reviews the past of this drama, and one can remember that this would have motivated him to ask for more money in the renewal with the Culé club, despite having the intention to stay.
Taking into account the date of the end of his contract with Barcelona, the player will also be able to choose freely and without pressure to which team he will want to belong to.
However, his permanence with the Blaugrana will have a consequence that could have negative effects on the team's performance.
According to the player's agent, Moussa Sissoko, FC Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez warned him a few weeks ago that "If he does not accept one of these two options (leave the club or renew) he will not play for Barcelona again".
As a result, the player is expected to spend the rest of the season on the bench without the slightest chance of playing time on the field.
If the team's coach keeps his word, the team will have a capable and fit striker, practically as an expensive ornament on the bench.
By doing so, Xavi could be throwing away the capabilities of a player who could serve the team at some point.
For example, if his strikers were to get injured, Xavi would not put the player on the field just to continue the internal war that he proposed.
And we have seen before what an injured squad has done to Barcelona last December when Xavi had only 9 players available due to COVID-19, suspensions, and injuries in the team.
If he has managed to survive such a complicated moment before, the Barcelona coach probably believes he will do it again, but anyway, this gamble of not fielding Dembélé seems like an extreme measure that could have collateral effects on the team's performance.
