Sergio Aguero started his first game for Barcelona today against Rayo Vallecano today after coming on as a substitute in El Clasico and scoring an injury time consolation in the tie, his first goal for the club. But why has his debut come this late despite joining Barcelona very early at the end of last season?

He announced at the end of the Premier League season last year that he will be leaving Manchester City after 10 years with a move to Spain with Barcelona confirmed days later. Aguero would however have a delayed start at Barcelona due to a calf injury.

The injury kept him out of action for 70 days or 10 weeks and he missed 10 games for the Blaugrana. Imagine signing a player and his first action for the club was to spend weeks on the sidelines. Things got worse when his friend Lionel Messi departed Barcelona while he was still injured.

Aguero's injury record is quite a pathetic one, had he stayed fit all through his career, he would have amassed more numbers and be a better player than he is. He spent 10 seasons at Manchester City and injury denied him individual awards as he never completed any season fit.
