See why Messi and Barcelona's new signings may not play until 2022
Barcelona are struggling to comply with La Liga's strict financial regulations to be able to register Lionel Messi and their new signings.
FC Barcelona are in a dilemma of trying to comply with La Liga's financial regulations that means they have to reduce its wage bill to be able to register the six time world footballer of the year and other new signings.
Messi became a free agent at the end of June and according to reports, he has taken a massive pay cut to sign a new contract and stay at the club but can not be registered until the club reduce their wage bill to comply with the league's financial fair play regulations.
Barcelona have also acquired the services of Eric Garcia, Emerson Royal, Sergio Aguero and Memphis Depay but none has so far been registered and may not be able to play until January 2022 unless a solution is found by selling some of their top earners who are surplus to requirements at the club.
Among the top earners who would either be sold or take a paycut to help the club meet up with regulations are Antoine Griezmann and Philippe Coutinho who are high earners. The club is also proposing pay cuts to Sergio Busquets, Sergi Roberto and Jordi Alba.
The 2021-22 La Liga season will commence on the 13th of August and the club must find a way to solve the issue before the transfer window closes on August 31 or they will be without five players.
