Chelsea have reportedly set their sights on Sevilla defender Jules Kounde as a defensive reinforcement ahead of the new season. However, Sevilla has told the London side they'll need to pay up to €80m to prize away the French defender. We will look at what Kounde can bring to Chelsea.

The 22-year-old is in his 5th year of senior football, having broke through the ranks at French club Bordeaux B in 2016 before going on to be a regular in the Bordeaux first team in 2017. Kounde completed a switch to Spanish club, Sevilla in summer of 2019. He has since made 63 appearances for the Spanish club, scoring 3 goals.

Kounde is an exciting right-sided defender that can play in both a 3-man defense and a 4-man defense. He would bring pace and exciting to the Chelsea backline with his mix of hard work and dribbling abilities. He is set to be the successor to Cesar Azpilicueta on the right hand of Chelsea's defence.

The former Bordeaux player is also a mix of an old head on young legs, having played over 150 games at the senior level. His 10 goals in that time is also an indication of a defender who can score the odd goal here and there. He would be a good addition to a team already consisting Rudiger and Christensen.

Kounde represents France at international level and had made 2 senior appearances for the Las Bleus. In terms of trophies, he was part of the Sevilla team that won the Europa League title in 2019-20. He was subsequently named in the UEFA Europa League Team of the season for 2019-20.
