Manchester United forward, Cristiano Ronaldo will likely make his debut for his new club on Saturday against Newcastle United. The 36-year-old completed a stunning transfer from Juventus to Old Trafford on transfer deadline day this summer. 12 years after leaving the club, Ronaldo will return to United for the twilight of his career.

When Ronaldo lines out on the Old Trafford pitch on Saturday, one likely player to line up alongside him is his Portuguese compatriot, Bruno Fernandes. The younger Portuguese will play in midfield while the older Portuguese will play in the attacking roles, hoping to combine to devastating effect for the Red Devils. As at 201o, neither of the players was at the Old Trafford but they had connected in the camp of the Portuguese national team and they had become friends. It was from there the foundations for their reunion at United started.

Manchester United had been on the trail of Bruno Fernandes since about 2018 and the Portuguese knew. Thus, he naturally went to the man within his national team squad to ask him questions about his time at Old Trafford. Ronaldo had only good things to say about his time with the English giants and he duly consented to Bruno Fernandes joining the team led by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who also happens to be Ronaldo's former teammate. Thus, Cristiano Ronaldo had a strong influence on Bruno Fernandes joining Manchester United.

When the tables turned in 2021 and Cristiano Ronaldo was in search of a club. Bruno Fernandes was at the forefront of convincing the 5-time Ballon d'Or winner to pitch his tent with Manchester United once again. Fernandes revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo had always been asking him details about Manchester United daily while the 36-year-old was still at Juventus. If Ronaldo needed any convincing to re-join the Red Devils, Bruno Fernandes was there to give it. Their plan worked out when Ronaldo signed for United on Transfer deadline day.
