FC Barcelona defeated Real Valladolid last week in a game in which Lionel Messi scored a goal and transformed himself into the player who scored the biggest number of goals playing for a single club. The Argentinian idol netted 644 balls for Barça, overcoming the record that Pele had scoring 643 for Santos.

Everyone accepted that Messi defeated the mark that Pele had until to know and the king himself saluted him in his social media. But afterwards a new war of egos started between the both historical no. 10. Santos claimed with a post on Instagram that the record from O Rey was still not beaten by Messi.

According to what the Brazilian side published on Instagram; Pele scored 1.091 goals for the club. They assure that many of those were not taken into consideration, as they were not scored on official competitions, but they occurred against important teams from all over the world and should be considered.

Messi also made a mention so the fact of overcoming Pele’s record on social media and Barcelona as well posted many contents celebrating the new conquer. After his 644 goal, the idol may now leave Barcelona as his contract ends on June 2021, and he has no intentions on renewing it.
