Mezut Ozil is Arsenal's highest paid player and had been questioned as Arsenal has financial problems. Because of that in the last hours they had decided to fire Jerry Quy from his job, which had been under the Gunnersaurus costume for more than 20 years. Mezut Ozil could not bear the decision and decided that Gunnersaurus should continue in the club.

Ozil contacted the club and announced that if Gunnersaurus returned to Arsenal he would take full charge of Quy's salary. This action would have been very well received by the Arsenal fans that had already started a campaign to collect money to pay the Gunnersaurus. So far they had raised more than 3,000 pounds.

Ozil has been at Arsenal for a long time and currently does not play any season games, which is why he was highly questioned by Arsenal fans. Ozil's salary is close to 350,000 pounds a week. Paying Gunnersaurus his salary will not affect Ozil's economy at all so he decided to pay the entire salary to him.

Arsenal had decided to terminate the Gunnersaurus contract as they considered that it was no longer necessary for the club, as the games are played without the public, the Gunnersaurus was without tasks at the moment but the fans who have been enjoying their mascot for more than 30 years did not they endured this unfair decision and managed to get Gunnersaurus back to where it is happy: the Arsenal stadium
