Paris Saint-Germain has appeared to be the frontrunner in the race to sign outgoing Barcelona star, Lionel Messi. Barcelona revealed on Thursday that the Argentine captain would not be staying at the club after financial complications stopped them from finalising a new contract for Messi. Subsequently, Messi would remain a free agent and is open to moving to another club side this summer.

In the aftermath of this, many club sides have been mooted as possible destinations for Lionel Messi including Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United, Juventus, and Inter Milan. However, it looks like the 6-time Ballon d'Or winner would be moving to France to play at Paris Saint-Germain from the 2021-22 season. PSG are set to make a move for Messi immediately and look to reunite him with his long-time pals, Neymar and Angel di Maria.

The Parisians are rumoured to already be putting together a 2-year contract with the option to extend by 1 year. This contract would see Messi earn a whopping €35m over the 2 years of the contract. This would mean a weekly wage of approximately €336,500 and an annual wage of €17.5m. This figure also includes numerous add-ons for the Argentine attacker.

It is reported that Lionel Messi is open to moving to the French side and would relish playing with Neymar again. If Messi signs, it would be the best summer for PSG ever after they had already got Gini Wijnaldum, Sergio Ramos, Achraf Hakimi, Gigi Donnarumma and Danilo Pereira to come to the club. Coupled with the attacking talents of Di Maria and Mbappe, many European heavyweights would be looking on in envy.
