Lionel Messi has completed a swift transfer to Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain in the space of 7 days. The ex-Barcelona captain had to sever ties with the Spanish club he has played for since he was 13 years old. It was not easy for Messi to bring to an end a 21-year relationship with the club.

The Catalan club announced on Thursday last week that the Argentine player would not be able to continue at the club due to 'financial & structural obstacles.' This caused lots of heartbreak at the club with many current players, fans and former players coming out to show their sadness that the highest goalscorer for Barcelona is leaving. They took to social media to mourn the departure of their talismanic forward.

On Sunday, there were more tears as Messi gave a press conference at the Camp Nou to confirm his exit. Messi himself broke into tears while he revealed that he wasn't ready for a move away from Barcelona. During his press conference was when he revealed he is in talks with the French side, Paris Saint-Germain.

Messi was all smiles today when he arrived in Paris for his medicals. He was also met by a large crowd who are not just fans of PSG but of football generally. On the other hand, it seems Barcelona are also already forgetting their prolific goalscorer, assist king and all-time appearance maker amongst others. In a friendly for the Joan Gamper trophy, Barcelona's new signing,  Memphis Depay was at the centre of everything. He scored his first goal for the club just 3 minutes into the match and made an assist in a 3-0 friendly victory over Juventus. Thus, there might have been tears last week, but now both parties seem to be smiling again.
