The post Ronald Koeman era for Barcelona began with a home game against relegation battlers Deportivo Alaves. Sergi Bajuan named a similar squad to Koeman's last game with American defender Sergino Dest preferred on the wing again.

The first half of the game was less convincing on the attacking front though Barcelona's identity tiki taka was in full fledged. Memphis Depay, the player signed by Ronald Koeman opened the scoring with a well taken goal in the 49th minute but the feeling did not last as Alaves pulled one back three minutes later.

The affair ended in a draw with only Barcelona's style of play being the little positive the club could take from Sergi Bajuan's first game in charge. His next game is a trip to Dynamo Kyiv in a must win match if Barcelona are to have any chance of progressing to the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League.

Memphis Depay agreed a contract of €7m per season with Barcelona but Goal reported it was reviewed to €5m due to the current financial struggles of the club.
