Ole Gunnar Solskjær kept faith with the 3-4-3 formation that helped him win the game against Tottenham and secured a draw against Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League but the problem was the same, they conceded two first half goals and it condemned them to the loss.

Individual errors capitalised on by Manchester City were responsible for the loss but who are the three players that made the most of it? The first goal was an own goal scored by Eric Bailey after he deflected a João Cancelo cross past goalkeeper David de Gea.

United could have scored a second own goal but David de Gea saved Victor Lindelof's goal bound attempt. United's struggles in midfield was another breakdown of the team that allowed City's midfielders Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and Rodri to dominate. Fred was a suspect in midfield, he was dribbled past four times by Bernardo Silva in the first half.

The second goal United conceded was due to a lapse in judgement by Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw who adjudged a ball to be going out of play but it was tapped in at the far post by Bernardo Silva to make it 2-0 in the first half. The second half was more of a training session for City who were just tapping the ball around.
