Manchester United have had a bid for defender Kalidou Koulibaly rejected by Italian club Napoli as the Red Devils look to strengthen their defence ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Red Devils tempted the club with a €30m bid and according to Italian media Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport, Napoli politely turned down the bid as they are not interested in selling the big defender.

The 30year old defender is entering his right season at the club and has had offers to leave the club from top European clubs including Liverpool in the past but ended up staying in Naples each time.

United have reportedly agreed personal terms with Real Madrid and French defender Raphael Varane who is expected to sign in coming weeks to partner with captain Harry Maguire in the heart of defence.
