2020 wasn’t an easy year for Lionel Messi. After 20 years at FC Barcelona, the legend tried to leave for the first time ever and couldn’t do so. Ex-president Josep María Bartomeu closed him the exit gate, even though they have previously arranged that the attacker could be leaving if he wanted to.

After such a decision, Messi decided to stay at Barça and will now have to define on June 2021 if he wants to move on. As a free agent, the Argentine has many clubs interested on signing him. Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are the main ones, and at the MLS there are a couple more.

But 2020 was also a bad year for Messi and his family, conformed by his wife Antonela Roccuzzo and his sons Thiago, Mateo and Ciro, due to a bad business. Messi gains fortunes every year thanks to the hotels he haves all over the world. The installations that he has in many parts of Europe help him to gain millions every year.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Messi had to close all his hotels during a big part of the year and couldn’t count on that income. Of course, that doesn’t mean he will be having financial issues now or in the future, but yes that he gained this year less than others, as that activity was paralyzed.
