Lionel Messi has won lots of trophies and has become one of the best soccer players ever. But his life has another face: his family. He is married to Antonella Roccuzzo, who he knows since their childhood in Rosario, the town in which they were born, about 180 miles away from Argentina’s capital city Buenos Aires.

Messi has been deeply in love with her when they were kids, he even wrote a letter for her saying ‘someday you will be my girlfriend’. He was already playing for Newell’s Old Boys junior teams being nine years old. In the subsequent years he would visit many times her family’s countryside house.

There was somebody who connected them: Antonella’s cousin Lucas Scaglia, Lionel Messi’s best friend. Scaglia was born in 1987 like Messi, and by the time his friend started his spell in Barcelona, he made his debut for Newell’s Old Boys in the Argentine premier division around 2006. Then, Scaglia played in Greece, Bolivia, Colombia and even in United States, playing in the NASL for Jacksonville Armada.

Antonella Roccuzzo married Messi on June 30, 2017 in Rosario, a big party was held in a hotel. Many Barcelona players and former team-mates of him came like Xavi Hernández, Gerard Piqué, Cesc Fábregas and Samuel Eto’o with their wives. The couple had a long story before being who they are now.
