The Argentine soccer superstar Lionel Messi never ceases to amaze. He is widely considered one of the best players in the world and for good reason: he possesses records such as scoring 91 goals in a year.  Find the latest news about the Argentinian playmaker.

A milestone for FC Barcelona

It comes as no surprise that a soccer player such as Lionel Messi would hold such an impressive and extensive track record. His name is known to everyone around the world, regardless of race, religion, gender, nationality and even interest in sports.

Many even draw comparisons to another iconic Argentine soccer player, the legendary Diego Armando Maradona, who many say to have scored “the goal of the century” in the 1986 FIFA World Cup finale against England.

One of the most impressive records that Lionel Messi holds is to have scored 91 goals in a single calendar year, making him the top scorer of FC Barcelona with an outstanding total of 672 goals overall. He achieved this mind-blowing milestone in 2012, with 84 goals in FC Barcelona (under Pep Guardiola’s management) and 12 in the Argentine national team. Making history and breaking records

Of course, the records don’t just stop there: in his 21 years of career, from the Argentine city  of Rosario to the Spaniard city of Madrid and around the whole world, Lionel Messi has broken every possible record ever written.

He has played in 778 games for FC Barcelona and played a direct role in scoring 938 goals. Messi is the only soccer player to have scored 10 or more goals in 15 consecutive seasons of La Liga Tournament. Another important highlight in Messi’s career is that he is also the first soccer player to have scored five goals in a Champions League match against Bayer 04 Leverkusen in March 2012. He also won six Ballon d'Or awards for his amazing performance from 2009-2012, 2015 and 2019, surpassing his rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, who has only won five Ballon d'Or awards.

With such a track record, the Argentine soccer superstar has already made history as one of the most important soccer players in the whole world and in recent history. It is clear that many years will pass before anyone else can even reach such accomplishments as the ones that “La Pulga” (the flea) has under his belt.
