Lionel Messi to MLS? The hidden reason behind the possible transfer

The Argentine move to the MLS has an impressive background that only a few know.

The Argentine move to the MLS has an impressive background that only a few know.

Lionel Messi could be leaving FC Barcelona for the very first time in his professional career. The Argentina legend was formed in Newell’s Old Boys at Rosario but, when he was just 13 years old, he moved to Barcelona and started playing for La Masía. He stayed at Barça for more than 20 years, but now he could depart.

Messi tried to leave during the last transfer window, but ex-president Josep María Bartomeu closed him the exit gate. The panorama has now changed, as his contract with the Catalan side expires on June 2021, and that gives him the possibility to negotiate and leave as a free agent since January.

There are many clubs interested on signing him and some of them are at the MLS, where Messi himself said that he would like to play one day. Inter Miami, with David Beckham as an owner and as a president, is the club that has more chances to sign the idol in the future.

But there is a hidden reason behind the fact of Messi wanting to leave to the MLS, and it is commercial. Adidas is the main sponsor of the player since he was young and is as well the official branding of the MLS. The German company is trying hard to reunite Messi with the U.S. league to enhance both of their greatest products.
