PSG head coach Mauricio Pochettino has opted to start the much talked about trio of Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr and Kylian Mbappé for the first time in a league match despite the three attackers underperforming in the Champions League. Kylian Mbappe overcame an injury to start.

Messi starts in the number 10 role in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Kylian Mbappé starting in number 9 and Argentine player Angel Di Maria the other player joining the attack as PSG will look to break a stubborn opponent in Lyon.

Messi's first game for PSG was against Reims where he came on from the bench and played just 25 minutes. He did not score but PSG won 2-0. He started the Champions League group game against Club Brugge but failed to score. Should he score today, it will be his first goal for the club.

Lyon will test the strength and quality of PSG's attack as they have done in the past. The last three games between the two have produced similar results, one win for each club and the second match a goalless draw. There's eight positions and seven points separating PSG and Lyon on the Ligue 1 table.
