Lionel Messi's career has been one of the most outstanding in the history of all sports.  The long list of records, many of which have not yet been able to be defeated, consecrated him as a one-of-a-kind player.

Lionel Messi is the player with the most Ballon d'Or, in the years 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2019, all achieved with FC Barcelona.

He is also the youngest player to win three Ballon d'Ors: he was 24 years, 6 months and 17 days old when he won the third on January 9, 2012.

Lionel Messi is the player with the most Golden Boots: he won a total of six in the 2009-10, 2011-12, 2012-13, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons.

One of his most recognised achievements is that he is the absolute top scorer in a calendar year: he scored 91 official goals in 2012, 84 with Barça (59 in the League, 13 in the Champions League, 5 in the Copa del Rey and 2 in the Super Cup) and 12 with the Argentine national team. In addition, he scored another 5 in friendlies with Barça, which raised the figure to a total of 96 goals.

He is the top scorer in a season in official competitions: he scored 73 goals in the 2011-12 season, 50 in the League, 14 in the Champions League, 3 in the Cup, 3 in the Spanish Super Cup, 1 in the European Super Cup and 2 in the Club World Cup.

He holds a record for international goals in a year. He scored 25 goals in 2012 (13 in the Champions League and 12 with the Argentine national team) and shares a record with Vivian John Woodward, who scored 25 in 1909.

It is well-known that he overcame one of Pelé’s record. Messi is the top scorer in the same club having scored 672 goals; Pelé had scored 643 goals with Santos between 1956 and 1974.

He is also the player with the most games played with the Argentina national team.

Among his many other achievements are: top scorer in a European League since the establishment of the Golden Boot trophy in the 1966/67 season, player who has scored more different teams in the Champions League, player with more state and international titles, top scorer in the Spanish League and top scorer in an edition of the League.

There is no doubt that Lionel Messi is one of the best players nowadays and he still tries to overcome himself.
