Liga MX could add a massive asset by bringing a former Manchester United player who is in the radar of Cruz Azul. The Mexican club has reported to be interested in a defender who had the honor to play in a World Cup Final and could be a quite easy-going negotiation – but a great deal.

It’s a 30-year-old center-back who also plays as a left-back and could definitely represent a huge boost of experience and skills joining names like Pablo Aguilar and Julio Domínguez.

After coming out from the youth divisions of 2009 Copa Libertadores champions Estudiantes de La Plata, Rojo moved to Russia for one season to play in Spartak Moscow, later switching to Sporting CP from Portugal. His massive performance for his country in the 2014 World Cup, in which he started all seven matches until the final, allowed him to sign for Manchester United.

Despite showing some good performances at the beginning of his spell, he lost lots of consideration from Louis Van Gaal, José Mourinho and Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer and now could leave. In 2018 World Cup he moved from left back to center-back, as AFC Ajax' Nicolás Tagliafico slid into the starting XI. He scored the winning goal versus Nigeria near injury time that allowed Argentina into the Round of 16. It’s regarded as one of the loudest goal celebrations ever in his country’s soccer history.

As the 'Red' go marching home?

After a last spell on loan back in Estudiantes, Rojo (curiously his last name means 'red' in Spanish) is also considering the chance of moving back to Argentina. Apart from his childhood club in which he was raised by national team’s 2014 coach Alejandro Sabella, he is reportedly in deep talks with giants Boca Juniors. In case he concludes his Manchester United contract now, he could go anywhere. And yes, possibly, Mexico.
