After the end of the regular season, the MLS gave the awards to their featured players. Lucas Zelarayán, the Argentinian aged 28 who plays for Columbus Crew was distinguished as the best signing of the season. The offensive midfielder needed not much time to show all his quality and conditions.

Liga MX side Tigres may be now thinking that his transfer to the MLS could have been for a bigger amount of money. Zelarayán left for just $8 million to the U.S. league and his value has now increased a lot after just some months. Tigres sold him on January 2020, after he played 140 games for their team and scored 23 goals.

Since his arrival, Zelarayán scored six goals in 17 matches played, including a free kick golazo. With this award he defeated Robert Beric (Chicago Fire FC), Alan Pulido (Sporting Kansas City), José Martínez (Philadelphia Union), Lewis Morgan (Inter Miami CF) and his compatriot Pablo Piatti (Toronto FC), who were also nominee.

With his help, Columbus Crew ended third on the Eastern Conference, after earning 41 points on 23 matches played. Now they will be facing New York Red Bulls on their first game of the MLC Cup Playoffs. Zelarayán is set to continue helping his team on the final part of the season.
