He is back. Just four months after announcing his retirement, Iker Casillas will return to Real Madrid. The goalkeeper transformed himself to an idol in the Spanish side, in which he played 725 matches receiving 750 goals during his professional career. Five years after leaving, he announced his comeback.
But things will be a bit different now and Thibaut Courtois will have nothing to be scared about, even though he is surprised. Casillas will return as the director of the club foundation and not to play once again as a goalkeeper. Everything was announced this Tuesday, after the club made a statement welcoming him.
With 39 years, Casillas was formed in the Galacticos and played there until July 2015, when he had no place left and went to Porto as a free agent to finish his career. With some remarkable performances, he won very important titles such as the World Cup, three Champions League of five LaLiga.
The idol wrote on his social media that he was proud to return to his house and thanked to the club for the opportunity received. The COVID-19 pandemic was determinant for Casillas to deciding retiring, after 156 matches at Porto in which he conceded 116 goals. Now he is back at the club that he loves and will try in a new position.
