Lionel Messi is in the news almost every week. If he wins, surely because he scored a goal, if he loses, because a new failure is consummated. It may be because he broke a new record, or a simple post on one of his official accounts on his social networks. However, what few know about him is how tall he is, one of the reasons that complicated his career in formative years.

The Argentine footballer played his entire career at Barcelona. In fact, in recent weeks he became the player with the most matches in the club's history. However, few thought that he would reach this stage, given his short stature, which is why many believed that he would never become a professional footballer.

Legend has it that Lionel Messi was ignored in both River Plate and Boca Juniors, the two greatest teams in his native Argentina. However, Barcelona bet on what they believed would be one of the greatest promises of the sport. Thus, he undertook an expensive treatment, which allowed him to reach his height today: 1.70 m (170 cm). Without a doubt, the bet with the best result in the history of the Catalan team.

Messi, at a young age, was causing so much interest in Argentina due to his ability to get past players with ease. It was not until the family heard about the diagnosis that Messi had which affected his growth. At age 13, Messi was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency. The young Argentine from Newells Old Boys received a growth hormone treatment, which was funded by FC Barcelona. FC Barcelona took good care of Messi and his family, and the rest was history.

Messi remained one of the shortest players in the FC Barcelona squad over the years, but it didn't matter as he would destroy tall players with his incredible dribbling skills and rapid pace. He was quickly viewed as the future of Barcelona and of the Argentina national team as he played his first FIFA World Cup in 2006 in Germany. Since then, Messi has played many World Cups with the Argentina national team. Messi is often compared to another great football player, Diego Maradona, for his dribbling skills and height, which also didn't affect Maradona in becoming one of the greatest football players of all time.

The closest he was to winning it for Argentina was in 2014 in Brazil, where they reached the final. They lost the final 1-0 against Germany, but Messi was the best player in the tournament and in the world. Messi stands as one of the best players of all time, regardless of that missed opportunity.

Messi's success in FC Barcelona has made him one of the greatest legends in the Catalan club's history. With FC Barcelona, he won a total of four UEFA Champions League trophies. Two of them were against Manchester United. He also won three FIFA Club World Cups, ten La Liga titles, three UEFA Super Cups, seven Copa Del Reys, and eight Spanish Super Cups.

Messi made his debut for the first team of FC Barcelona in 2005, where he made a total of 778 appearances for the club across all competitions. Messi scored a total of 672 goals for FC Barcelona, and he provided a total of 303 assists. Messi will be remembered forever for his achievements and for becoming a star despite his height.
