Lionel Messi stole the spotlight with his hat-trick of assists against St Etienne, two for Marquinhos and one for countryman, Angel Di Maria, but the dent in the win for Paris Saint-Germain was injury to Brazilian playmaker Neymar Jr.

Neymar first opened the scoring in the first half from a Kylian Mbappé pass but the goal was rightly chalked off by video assistant referee due to offside. Shortly after PSG went behind but Lionel Messi made the day his and produced all the goals to hand PSG the win.

Neymar was forced off a few minutes to the end of the match with an apparent serious ankle injury. He was pictured leaving the stadium with his knee bandaged and on crutches. There are no immediate update on his condition but he will be assessed and the extent determined.

Ankle twists typically take about a month to recover and with the reaction on Neymar's face when he could be set for a long time on the sidelines. Neymar is on €730,000 per week, if out for a month PSG would have paid about €3m to a player spending time out injured.
