James Rodríguez, who started to the season with his new team Everton on an amazing shape, will not be able to play this Sunday in the Premier League game against Southampton. That was revealed by Carlo Ancelotti, coach of the Goodison Park team, in a press conference prior to the game against the Saints. Ancelotti himself said that James Rodríguez' injury was due to the kick provided by Virgil Van Dijk during the Merseyside Derby played las week.

The absence of the Colombian former Real Madrid and Bayern Munich player will be very hard to replace for the Liverpool club since he is the one who manages the team's game and is it's star player so far this season. James Rodríguez arrived this season at Everton and in 6 games played he has already scored 3 goals and has given 4 assists.

Another absence in the ‘Toffees’ will be their captain, the Irishman Seamus Coleman, also due to an injury. Everton is in the top of the Premier League with 15 points in 5 games, one more point than Aston Villa, which has 4 games played.  Reigning champion Liverpool is three points behind the leader and will face Sheffield United on Saturday. James Rodriguez's Everton and Aston Villa are the only Premier League teams that have not lost a game this season.

On the other hand, Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk said himself that he will probably miss the remainder of the season due to a torn cruciate ligament suffered as result of a tackle by Jordan Pickford, Everton goalkeeper, in the aforementioned derby last Saturday at Goodison Park, which ended in a very controversial 2-2 draw.
