Professional footballers have many means of making their money. From huge weekly salaries, to match bonuses, and smart business investments, the players often earn multiple incomes. Another valid means of income for footballers is through endorsements from companies and organizations.
One of the players who make the most money from endorsement deals is Lionel Messi. The 6-time Ballon d'Or winner earns an annual salary of about €35m from his PSG deal but he is expected to make another €65m yearly from his numerous endorsement deals. The biggest of Messi's endorsement deals is his lifetime deal with Kit manufacturers, Adidas. The Argentine forward earns a total of $25m yearly from his deal.
Lionel Messi also has endorsement deals with companies such as Pepsi, Gatorade (since 2018), Budweiser, Ooredoo (since 2013), Lays (since 2014), Konami, OrCam (since 2020), Jacob & Co (since 2019), and Dubai Auto Expo (since 2020). The former Barcelona player makes over $40m from all these other endorsement deals.
MLS star, Chicharito Hernandez also has endorsement deals with companies such as Herbalife Nutrition. The Nutrition company signed the L.A. Galaxy forward to a contract in 2020 and this contract will run till the end of the 2023 MLS season. Chicharito at some point also had an endorsement deal with EA Sports, appearing on the cover of FIFA 14 in Mexico.
