The first season of Hirving Lozano at Napoli didn’t go as the fans and the local press was expecting to. The Italian side paid $35 million for him to PSV Eindhoven and felt great deception after his performances during his first year at the club. But what nobody was expecting, was what came in his second year.
The comparison talks by itself: Chucky scored five goals and gave two assists on the 2019/20 season, and then scored nine and gave four assists so far, this 2020/21 campaign. His numbers have really improved and at Italy they are already considering him one of the best Mexican players to ever play at the Serie A.
This week, Lozano scored against Empoli and overcame a record from mythical Hugo Sánchez, who had 53 goals scored at Europe when he was 25 years old. At the same age, Chucky has already shouted 54 goals, between the ones he scored playing for Napoli and PSV. Sánchez made them playing for Atlético Madrid on his days.
The last goal with which he humiliated Sánchez was also a clear message to Gennaro Gattuso. The relationship of the attacker and the head coach was not the best one since the very beginning and, despite they have a better deal nowadays, the goal was seen as a clear signal that prohibits Gattuso to send Lozano out.
