During the last years many players were named as Lionel Messi’s successors, as FC Barcelona tried to form one, knowing that the Argentinian legend won’t be lasting forever. But despite their intentions, nobody yet could reach the level of Messi and the Catalan side is now very near to lose him.

One of those playmakers who was supposed to occupy the place of Messi was Alen Halilovic. The Croatian aged 24 now arrived to La Masía on July 2014 and was said to be one of the greatest prospects of the club. But things advance differently and didn’t go as all were expecting to.

The offensive midfielder played just at the first team and didn’t show great conditions, so he was loaned at Sporting Gijón and then sold at Hamburgo. Afterwards he passed through UD Las Palmas, AC Milan, Standard Lieja and Heerenveen. During all his movements he added a cost of $12 million in transactions.

After all these years, Halilovic ended his contract with Milan and arrived as a free agent to Birmingham City on the Championship, England’s Second Division. With just 24 years, he has a reported value of $1 million and from the kid that was compared to Messi now he doesn’t even have his shadow.
