He’s one of many players that have played for both Atlas and Chivas, and after growing being part of Atlas academy, where he debuted in 1987, he then went to play for several Liga MX teams, including a short stint with El Rebaño.

He won two Liga MX championships, one with Club León in the 1991-92 season, and the other with Cruz Azul for Invierno 1997, the last title La Máquina had before winning it again last year. He finally retired with Dorados de Sinaloa, where he shared dressing room with Pep Guardiola.

But one of the most remembered moments of Guadalupe Castañeda’s career was a nutmeg he made to Jorge Campos in the quarterfinals of Liga MX in 1994-95 season, after Julio Zamora failed a penalty kick that was conceded at the 88’ after a foul over Juan Reynoso.

 

What does Guadalupe Castañeda do now?

After retiring from soccer in 2005, “Lupillo” Castañeda was part of TV Azteca for a while as a TV commentator, but after a few years he decided to step away from the soccer industry and now has a restaurant in one of Guadalajara’s most renowned markets, where he’s usually seen serving, cooking and even washing dishes.
