The whole world experienced an outage on social media companies belonging to Facebook for about eight hours on Monday, October 4, 2021 at about 3:44 pm GMT. WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram all went out of service globally leading to communication issues across the world.

Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram all utilized Twitter, which was not affected to announce they are aware of the issue and working on it yesterday. Footballers just like everyone else were affected by the situation as they are avid users of social media especially Instagram, a few of them joked around about it on Twitter but not Lionel Messi.

Lionel Messi does not have a Twitter account and as such would have been seriously affected by the outage. Former teammate Antoine Griezmann accused Messi of not replying on time to WhatsApp messages, sometimes taking two days to reply, maybe yesterday was one of the days he could not have replied to anyone if it was active.

The Argentine has been said to be very good at playing video game FIFA, so it is possible he was playing FIFA, as the social media he utilises were down. Messi in his own words many times has claimed he likes spending time with his children and could be doing that. Whatever it was, he was surely having a great time away from social media.
