Club América started 2021 in middle of the confusion around Nicolás Castillo and the effort to get rid of one or two Non-Raised players to allow him back in the squad. But now, another one of the team’s big names is looking more and more under pressure. It is Giovani Dos Santos, who could depart from Coapa sooner than later.

The 31-year-old playmaker has been lately struggling to have any playing time since Santiago Solari became the Eagles’ new head coach. The Argentinian has been choosing names like Mauro Laínez, Sebastián Córdova or his countryman, former Boca Juniors’ wonderkid Leonardo Suárez. It has been impossible for Dos Santos to be part of the starting XI.

At first, Solari trusted a lot in Gio, but as games went by, it was more and more challenging for him to stay in the squad. And at the end of the 2021 Guard1anes tournament, he could even be out of the club. Also, it seems that América’s President Santiago Baños is backing Solari’s decision on the Mexican star.

Some time ago, Baños had stated that Dos Santos was having his position at stake. The playmaker signed for the club as a free agent for 2019-2020 season after finishing his spell in LA Galaxy. Now, he could do the same to leave Club América by the end of the 2021 Guard1anes tournament, since his contract expires next June 30.
