Gerard Piqué had an incredible gesture that shocked everyone at FC Barcelona. After the COVID-19 pandemic the club entered on a financial crisis and asked some of their players to reduce their wages. In a new contract renewal, the Spanish defender agreed to do so.

The new contract that Piqué signed with Barcelona will stand until 2024, when he will be 37 years old, and it has a lower salary of 50% in respect of his previous one. Other of Barça players accepted the renewal, such as Clement Lenglet, Marc-André Ter Stegen or Frenkie De Jong, lowering their salary a 30%.

But, despite that he will now earn less money, Piqué is still one of the richest players in the world. Many financial websites report that the defender has a fortune of $85 million, gained not just playing soccer but with other businesses that he has made through his 33 years.

Pique had just to transfers in his entire career, the one he made to leave Barcelona to Manchester United on 2004 for $6 million and the one he did to go back to his former club on 2008 for $5.5 million. This season he played five games (four at La Liga and one at Champions League) scoring no goals and suffering a red card.
