Since he got relegated in the consideration of Arsenal FC’s manager Mikel Arteta, apart from some persistent injuries, German playmaker Mesut Özil has spent lots of time recently on social media. He’s been interacting with his fans and created lots of controversy after some opinions he expressed.

Apart from his statement saying he would rather retire from football before joining Tottenham Hotspur, the midfielder has given his opinion about Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. He assured the Portuguese is simply better than the Argentinian. Despite the negative reactions from the Barcelona and Argentina fans, he gave his reasons.

“Lionel Messi has proven to be among the best ones in Spain, but Cristiano Ronaldo has always been the best one in each and every league he played at”, said Özil. The Argentinean has been in Barcelona since he joining the academy being 13 years old (now 33), while the Portuguese has excelled in England, Spain and Italy playing for Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus respectively.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who plays for Juventus since July 2018, when Real Madrid sold him in 117 million euros, has scored 19 goals in just 17 games in 2020-21 season. Last Sunday, playing against Sassuolo, he became the player with most official goals ever, reaching 759. He has beaten Austria’s Josef Bican, professional between 1931 and 1955.

Cristiano Ronaldo always praised Özil

“Özil’s departure means very bad news to me. He was the player who best knew my movements to goal”, said Cristiano Ronaldo back in 2013 when Real Madrid paid Arsenal FC 47 million euros for the German’s transfer. They shared three full seasons in the Spanish side, winning the Copa del Rey twice, a league season and a Spanish Supercup between 2010 and 2013.
