The 2022 FIFA World Cup UEFA qualifying series group stages were completed today and all 10 direct qualification slots and 12 playoff slots were decided today and Norway missed out on both routes to qualify.
This puts a big question on young star striker Erling Haaland and is one of the big players to have been either confirmed or could miss the FIFA World Cup in Qatar next year. Haaland missed both the October and November international breaks due to injury.
Missing out on the FIFA World Cup puts a big financial strain on the nations who would not be entitled to the base fees and bonuses meant for countries that will participate and in turn affect the players who will receive no pay for sitting at home watching the tournament.
The Norway national team has an equal pay rule for both male and female teams, a rule which was made in 2017. The rule means that a Norwegian player is paid about £25,000 per year for national team assignments, with world cup bonus included it could rise to as much as £50,000 and this is how much Haaland will be losing. Considering he earns about £141,000 at Dortmund, he won't feel that much.
