Since his departure from Atlético de Madrid in December 2020, Diego Costa has not played for any team again. However, this reality would be close to ending since this Wednesday the newspaper ‘Mundo Deportivo’ reports that the popular stricker has reached an agreement with Benfica for the 2021-22 season.

The former Chelsea striker would also arrive as a free player at the Lisbon team led by Jorge Jesus. The agreement between Diego Costa and Benfica (Liga NOS) involves a transfer bonus of three million euros and a net salary of three million euros per season. It is the best offer that the 32-year-old striker has been able to present, although far from the eight million he earned at Atlético de Madrid.

In the absence of an official announcement and of his joining Jorge Jesus' team, Costa will continue to train on his own in Brazil. In fact, it is the place where he has taken refuge after breaking all ties with Atlético at the end of 2020. It should be clarified that Diego Costa finished his contract with Atlético on June 30 of this year, but he terminated the relationship for personal reasons.

“I want to thank all Atlético, but I think my time has come and that for both me and the club it was the best thing that could happen. I think this is the best time for both of us. And the best way to help this team and the club. I have given my best or, at least, I always tried to do my best for this club and for this shirt", he stated in a letter to his fans.
