The controversy over Cristiano Ronaldo’s future continues to dominate the rumour mills. Despite Juventus’ Vice President, Pavel Nedved, stating that the former Real Madrid star would be staying at the Allianz Arena this season, no official confirmation has been issued yet.

The 5-time Ballon d’Or winner has also been silent on his future as he enters the final year of his contract with Juventus. The Portuguese star currently earns a whooping 31m annually at the Italian side after he was signed for 100m from Real Madrid in 2018. His massive wages mean that few clubs can afford to sign the megastar this season or next.

We will look at the clubs who can afford to foot the Portugal international’s wages and possibly pay a huge fee for his transfer if he is to leave Juventus this season:

PSG: Paris Saint-Germain is the likeliest club to pay the huge wages Ronaldo would be demanding if he is to make a move. With Lionel Messi choosing to stay at Barca, PSG might be tempted to sign the only player that can compete with the Argentine wizard. His 5 Champions League medals might also convince the Parisians that Ronaldo is the perfect person to give them the object of their desire.

Manchester United: Since Ronaldo left Old Trafford, there have always been rumours of a possible return. With the financial pull of the English behemoths, they are one of the few clubs that can afford to sign him. His love for Manchester United might also convince him to make an emotional return.

Chelsea: The Blues need a proven goal scorer and no other person who can score goals better than Ronaldo. With the massive attacking talent at Stamford Bridge, many players provide the kind of assistance that Ronaldo needs to put the ball at the back of the net. His signing would be a quick fix for Thomas Tuchel’s side and expect Roman Abramovich to reach into his deep pockets to make the deal happen.

Inter Miami/LA Galaxy/New York Red (MLS): The huge payday in the United States might attract a man who has won everything there is to win in Europe. His quest for breaking new records might also attract him to head state-side and shatter some of the records there. The signing of Ronaldo would be a huge boost for the MLS and any of the clubs that sign him.

Real Madrid: You can never say never to the Santiago Bernabeu. A sensational return to the Spanish giants cannot be ruled out. A combination of deep pockets and his affinity for the club he became a megastar could see Ronaldo consider a return to his former stomping ground.
