Cristiano Ronaldo's return to Manchester United has been a mixed affair, he started strongly on a personal note scoring four goals in his first three games but has receded and it was not a coincidence that the teams performance had dropped.

Trouble began to brew when United lost their first Champions League match of the season to Young Boys 2-1, thanks to a last minute blunder by Jesse Lingard which gave the hosts the opportunity to pounce and grab the winner. Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes were subbed in the match after Aaron Wan-Bissaka's red card.

The second match against Villarreal looks destined to end in a draw but the greatest clutch player in the world came to the rescue of the team with a last minute winner to seal the victory for Manchester United and offered some kind of retribution for the UEFA Europa League final loss to the same opponent.

Manchester United will play against high scoring Italian opposition Atalanta in the third game. They will hope to bounce back from the disappointment of the 4-2 loss to Leicester City at the weekend knowing full well that a win is important for many reasons. Should United stand a chance, Cristiano Ronaldo has to be at his best.
