World of football was shocked after discovering that Cristiano Ronaldo and his wife Georgina Rodríguez own a collection of jewelry valued in over $3.5 million. Comparisons are not always desired, as some people say, but the truth states that some star players in Serie A, where Ronaldo plays, earn much less than that per year.

Possibly, two of the key players in Juventus, alongside the Portuguese striker, are Giorgio Chiellini and Uruguay’s midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur. They are paid $3.5 and $2.5 million, respectively. Last figure is the same for United States’ rising star Weston McKennie, who arrived on loan from German side Schalke 04. Historic goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has a salary of $1.5 million.

A future star in the Serie A is Internazionale striker Lautaro Martínez, from Argentina. The 23-year-old joined from his home club Racing Club for €25 million in 2018. His first contract with the club includes a salary of $2.5 million. Former Inter defender Diego Godín has now an annual income of $2 million from Cagliari. Also, former Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund’s Henrik Mkhitaryan has a $3.5 million contract in Roma.

Over half of the Serie A table has teams in which no player earns $3.5 million per year. These are Torino, Cagliari, Bologna, Genoa, Sassuolo, Parma, Sampdoria, Benevento, Udinese, Verona, Crotone, Spezia and UEFA Champions League quarter finalists Atalanta. Some of this clubs field many young players who for sure will expect higher salaries in the future.

Argentina’s hope

Born in 1997, Lautaro Martínez is the new star of the Albiceleste. Approaching what is likely to be the last World Cup for Lionel Messi, Sergio Agüero and Angel Di María, the only three survivors of 2014 Final, the country needs new idols. Inter’s striker made his debut for Racing Club in 2015, and moved to Inter after 2018 World Cup, in which he was narrowly left out of the squad by coach Jorge Sampaoli.
