9.58 seconds to run 100 metres is an amazing feat that just one man in history was able to complete. That man is Jamaican retired athlete Usain Bolt. Now being 34 years old he has spent his last years following the sport since he left competition in 2017. Who else can be considered the fastest man on Earth?
When Lionel Messi was just giving his first steps in the first team of Barcelona, Cristiano Ronaldo stated that he was surprised by the speed the Argentinian can reach carrying the ball in his feet. Perhaps he was as fast as many others without the ball, but with it there was no comparison.
Still, Cristiano Ronaldo amazed with his speed throughout many years, particularly in his Manchester United years. His darting runs down the right or left wings were simply impossible to chase by the defenders. As years went past, his performances in Real Madrid and Portugal’s national team moved him on the field to turn him into a striker.
“Who is the fastest for me? It is simple. Cristiano Ronaldo is a super athlete; I have no doubts. He’s still active, he works hard, and to me, he’s a super athlete. He has always been on top of his sport”, said Bolt in an interview with Spanish newspaper Marca back in November.
Ronaldo’s benchmark was named Rodríguez
No, not his wife Georgina Rodríguez, but Angel David Rodríguez, a retired Spanish athlete. Both were face to face in a sprint race of 25 meters. Rodríguez clocked 3.31 seconds, while Ronaldo set 3.61. That could have led to a 11.6 seconds for 100 meters, according to the athlete’s estimation.
