Chelsea were at the forefront of a lone battle for the signature of Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland in the summer, but their attempt was unsuccessful because Dortmund were not willing to sell and some conditions also put Chelsea off.

The London club went in with a bid of £130m but was rejected amid other claims that Haaland's agent Mino Raiola also wanted some other expenses which would make the deal around £250m, one of which is an annual salary of £50m. Chelsea went instead for former striker Romelu Lukaku and signed him from Inter Milan for £97.5m.

Thomas Tuchel has now confirmed that the club still talk about him though talks about him are not serious and could get serious in coming weeks. “We talked about Erling Haaland a couple of times, including during the transfer window. But then it seemed absolutely unrealistic and not at all feasible. We talk about him regularly, of course, because he’s a fantastic player and clearly the defining figure at Dortmund, who is a big rival for us in the Champions League.” Tuchel told Sport Bild.

On the prospect of having Lukaku and Haaland together, Tuchel said: "I don’t think we’ve been really serious about it yet, but let’s see what will happen in the next few weeks."

Haaland's release clause at the end of the season would be £68m which means if Chelsea move ahead quickly, they will sign him for lesser than they were initially offering last summer.
