If Manchester United paying £80m for Harry Maguire from Leicester City is not criticised enough, making him the captain of Manchester United after less than six months by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not looked on in good faith by the Manchester United faithfuls who feels he lacks what it takes to be captain of a club of United's stature.

Maguire was brought in to steady the ship of United's defence but it has not been any better with him than without him, even worse with him in many areas. The United defence in the season before Maguire was signed conceded just 28 league goals, and last season they conceded 44 league goals and have conceded 15 already this season.

Maguire however is a player with questionable leadership quality in action and in speech, his words to Sky Sports about his performance evaluation is one of the reasons that shows lack of self-awareness. "We don't generally look at stats. I didn't know those stats [for tackles and duels won]. That's something I'm sure the staff are looking at but we look at the performances and results. This past week we know we've conceded far too many goals and far too many chances. We know we have got to improve."

Clubs have data analysts whose job is to analyse stats for performance improvements. Players as well make use of it for personal assessment but for such to be jettisoned by the captain of a club, it is terrible. Maguire has also suffered relegation four times in his career and has no winning mentality, all of these makes him not fit to be the captain of Manchester United.
