The FC Barcelona forward Leo Messi was for a long time the most expensive player in the world, costing nearly 180 million Euros, in his best days, now those days has gone. According to a study carried out by the famous transfer and quote site Transfermarkt, the value of the Argentine player Leo Messi plummeted for the first time since 2010, when the forward was valued at 100 million Euros.

According to the study carried out, the Argentine player was devalued by 20% so it would now be costing 80 million Euros. At 33, Messi ranks fourth on the list of the most expensive players behind Ansu Fati, who is third. The list is led by the Portuguese Joao Felix, who is valued at 100 million Euros and below him is the goalkeeper from Atletico de Madrid Jan Oblak, who is worth 90 million Euros.

The explanation why Lio Messi lowered his price, is due to the fact that the FC Barcelona striker is entering in the last years of his great career as a high-performance footballer, as undoubtedly the Argentine player has a lot of football left to show but in a team with less demand. Another factor in the collapse of his price is that FC Barcelona is going through an institutional crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. That is why the value of Messi suffered a decrease of 20 million Euros.
