Lionel Messi is set to leave FC Barcelona after more than 20 years at the club. It is something that the Argentinian star tried to do half a year ago, when ex-president Josep María Bartomeu didn’t let him. Now, with his contract expiring on June 2021, there are concrete chances of him leaving.

Despite Barça is the club of his life, Messi wants to play his last years in a competitive side. The historical no. 10 thinks that the club has been doing things very bad in the last months, the reason why he wants to depart to a place where there is a good administration that could help him to be in a competitive squad.

Barcelona is now looking forward to convincing Messi to stay, despite they will have presidential elections soon and the future of the player may depend on whom the winner is. Joan Laporta, Víctor Font and Toni Freixa are the unique candidates, and they are already working to make a strategy to convince the idol to stay.

As the club is facing a financial crisis, the first two players arriving will be doing it for free: Eric García, from Manchester City, and Memphis Depay, from Olympique Lyon. The other ones arriving will depend on who wins the election, despite the head coach could change as well as Ronald Koeman could leave and leave his place to Xavi Hernández.
