Joan Laporta, one of the three candidates for President in the next elections in Barcelona, has recently declared the club’s financial situation is “dramatic”. After having held that role from 2003 to 2010, he definitely knows what he is talking about. Despite that, the club could make an extraordinary investment in the transfer market to replace Lionel Messi.

The Argentinian seems set to depart after the end of his contract on June 30. His relationship with the current board is not the best, and unless the new president convinces him to stay, whether it is Laporta, Toni Freixa or Victor Font, he’ll leave. Ahead of this, Barcelona is already looking for options as reported by English newspaper Daily Mirror.

How can we choose a replacement? Not an easy task, but it could be a different kind of player. Apparently, Barcelona thinks the man for the job could be quite taller than Messi, but as dangerous for the rivals’ goalkeepers as the Argentinian. Barcelona could have to pay over the alleged market price of Marcus Rashford. The 23-year-old Englishman could cost €80 million, or $96.8, or even more.

Rashford has played 22 games so far in the ongoing Premier League campaign for Manchester United, having scored eight goals and seven assists. Apart from this, he has set an amazing figure of six goals in six games for the UEFA Champions League. He’s also score two more for the Carabao and Emirates Cup.
