New Real Madrid coach, Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly angry at Eden Hazard for returning to pre-season with low match fitness levels. The Belgian wizard has had his professionalism questioned during his time at the Spanish Capital, infamously being 5kg overweight when he completed his transfer to the club in 2019.

The Madrid fans are used to having players in top physical condition with Cristiano Ronaldo the best example of this. During his time at the Bernabeu, Ronaldo was always in top shape and he hardly missed matches due to lack of match fitness or injury. We will compare the impact of the two wing-wizards at the Bernabeu over their first 2 seasons.

Cristiano Ronaldo moved to Real Madrid in the summer of 2009 from Manchester United. Over the next 2 seasons, he played a total of 89 matches, scoring 86 times. He also won 1 Copa del Rey.

Eden Hazard completed his dream move to Real Madrid in the summer of 2019. He has featured for the Los Blancos only 43 times, scoring 5 goals across the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons.  He was also part of the team that won the 2019-20 La Liga title despite playing just 16 league games.

Undoubtedly, Ronaldo had a more productive first 2 seasons as a scorer in Madrid. However, Hazard is at par with him in terms of trophies with both players winning just 1. Hazard being more match fit might see greater involvement in the goals.
